How to receive help from the government to repair my house?

If you need to repair your house or carry out a remodeling, since your home is in poor condition, you can obtain financial help from the Government. With the Department of Agriculture’s Section 504 Rural Home Repair Program, you may be able to get a loan if you: are a homeowner, have a low income, are a citizen or resident, and live in a rural area.

If you are eligible for the home repair program you could receive up to a maximum of $20,000. The interest rate on the loan is fixed at 1% and you would have up to 20 years to repay the loan, according to the government’s Disaster Assistance website.

On the other hand, you may also receive a grant under the Section 504 Rural Housing Repair Program, for a maximum amount of $7,500. You do not have to repay the grants, however, if you sell the property within 3 years of receiving the grant you will have to repay the money. As the Disaster Assistance website explains, you may be able to get a combination of loans and grants, if you can afford some but not all of the cost of financial aid.

If you want to obtain a government subsidy to repair your home, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have low income
  • Be a citizen or resident
  • Live in a rural area
  • Be 62 years of age or older
  • Not being able to pay a repair loan

Alternatively, you can contact your local Department of Housing office in your state or city, as they often have programs that provide grants and loans for repairs. For example, if you live in New York City, the Office of Urban Preservation and Development has a program that provides low-interest loans for repairs to participating apartments and homes. You could use the funds to replace windows, repair the roof, make electrical upgrades, etc.

On the other hand, if you cannot apply for financial aid from the Government, you can consider the following loans:

1. Wells Fargo

At Wells Fargo , you can get a home loan to help repair your home. You could get $3,000 to $100,000 to make repairs to your home, with no origination fees. The interest and terms of the loan will depend on the amount of money you get from the loan, credit history, among other things. With Wells Fargo you can apply online for loans and if you are approved you can receive the money quickly.

Home Repair Program for Low-Income Families

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) helps low-income families reduce the use of electricity in their homes through repairs or the installation of equipment that allows them to save electricity.

In support of the program, SRP awards $825,000 a year to the Wildfire organization , which administers the federal program in our area. SRP helps low-income families with up to $6,000 to make home repairs that allow them to use less electricity and save on their electric bills. The type of repairs could include:

  • Insolation
  • Installation of sunscreens
  • Installation of showers that use less water
  • Sealing and repairing leaks in ducts and around doors and windows
  • Inspection, repair or replacement of air conditioning and heating systems
  • Inspection of security systems and essential services for health care
  • Installation of ENERGY STAR CFL bulbs that use less light

Qualifying homes may be able to receive additional help from the federal government to make needed repairs. As a general rule, eligibility is based on family size and family income:

Different opportunities!

And everyone finds their own, that’s why the public and private sectors of Colombia come together, offering you the possibility of registering for a free home .

On this website we want to unite virtually to support you, and that is why we offer you all the information you need to get into the house of your dreams.

So… Roll up your sleeves and let’s get to it!

What is the Free Housing Program for?

The 100% subsidized housing program was born to promote both urban development and the reduction of the housing deficit, among the most vulnerable population in the country.

The main objective: Overcome extreme poverty!

This is how many see their dream come true with this project, from those who are in a vulnerable situation, to those affected by natural disasters and even displaced people. A possibility that you can take full advantage of, and thus provide shelter for your family. Do you want to know how? You are one step away from finding out!

How to enroll in the Free Housing Program?

In principle, to access the Free Housing Program (PVG), you must meet the prioritization criteria, which means that you must be in one of the conditions indicated below:

Be linked to a social program of the state, whose purpose is to overcome extreme poverty, or be within that social range.

  • Find yourself in a situation of displacement.
  • Having been affected by natural disasters that occurred in the country, or in an emergency that has left you homeless.
  • Living in a high risk area.
  • Not be the owner of any home and not have benefited from any housing plan.

If you are in one of these situations, keep in mind that priority will be given to women and men who are heads of household, older adults and people with some type of disability. In the second instance, you must register in the Network for Overcoming Extreme Poverty, Sisbén and/or the Single Register of Displaced Population.

However, the Administrative Department for Social Prosperity (DAPS) will hold a lottery to define the beneficiaries of the subsidy, and will be in charge of drawing up the list. Finally, the Ministry of Housing will be in charge of setting the delivery schedule. There are few steps, and it is up to you to take them firmly until you see your name on that list.
